ONLINE Virtual Summer Squash June Camps – UPDATE

In-person camps for the first two June weeks are canceled and we are waiting to see how the MD guidelines develop as to July and August camps. (Update – Summer camps will start June 22 with safety protocols.)

AussieNick Squash On-Line Summer Camp

Welcome to the AussieNick Squash On-Line Summer Camp that we have set up due to COVID-19.

COVID-19 Background

COVID-19 is a disease caused by a respiratory virus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China in December 2019. COVID-19 is a new virus that hasn’t caused illness in humans before. Worldwide, COVID-19 has resulted in thousands of infections, causing illness and in some cases death. Cases have spread to countries throughout the world, with more cases reported daily.

This Camp will be entirely run through the online Zoom platform. The information for the specific Zoom calls will be sent out at the start of each week.

Cost: $200 per week

Dates:

Week 1: June 8-12

Week 2: June 15-19

(More dates may be added based on Maryland guidelines on reopening)

Times: Monday – Friday 1-4pm

Camp Coaches

Dr Jim Masland – Jim is the head squash pro at Chevy Chase Athletic Club. Jim is a former touring squash pro, a Harvard graduate and PhD. Jim brings a rarely seen collection of skills to the job, being a top class player and possessing the intellect and analytic strengths to achieve profound insights into coaching at all skill levels.

Connie Barnes – Connie Barnes is AussieNick’s COO and Director of Squash. Connie played Squash at State grade level in Australia for 15 years before arriving in Bethesda in 2002. An inaugural member of TPAC The Professional Association of Coaches and a USSquash representative, Connie is a Level 2 USSquash coach.

Lucas Norman – Coach Lucas has recently joined the AussieNick Squash team from Australia, where he established one of the biggest junior programs in the country and coached multiple top 15 nationally ranked players. Coach Lucas joins the team as assistant COO and coach and is responsible for running tournaments and events, parent liaison, social media, business strategy management, logistics and usage planning and junior development programming.

Jackie Barnes – Former Dartmouth Women’s Squash Team: played in the #1 position all four years. Former Captain of Dartmouth Women’s Squash Team. Named an All-Ivy League Player. Led team to Kurtz Cup Winner. Top 100 WSA professional squash player.

Camp Activities

Squash Specific workouts – These workouts will mirror the movements and intensity of playing squash. These off-court workouts will provide a valuable advantage to returning squash players.

Online Technical Sessions – Our coaches will teach and analyze an array of different squash techniques; including grip, swing, footwork and much more.

Nutrition Sessions – These sessions will provide sports nutrition information and give participants some understanding on what they should be eating to fuel their bodies for squash and life.

Sport Psychology – These sessions will help turn negatives into positives and with feeling more in control and focused https://aussienicksquash.com/sports-psychology/

Strength and Conditioning – These sessions will focus on strengthening participants in areas specific to squash. Focusing on lower body strength, core strength and stability exercises.

Match Analysis – Review of match footage, highlighting technique, tactics, movement patterns and shot selection. This will include refereeing analysis and instruction.

Yoga/Pilates – Beginner Yoga and Intermediate Pilates sessions. These are great at increasing flexibility, core strength and helping participants to understand how their bodies move.

Please note these COVID protocols will be in place when Phase 1 opens and we do individual lessons.

Squash and COVID-19 Protocols – Phase 1

These protocols will be in place when Maryland Phase 1 opens and we do individual lessons.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

Protocols –

  • Temperature will be taken before allowed in with a touchless thermometer. The CDC states that a fever for COVID-19 purposes is any temperature at or above 100.4 degrees
  • disposable gloves will be provided and put on when entering the club, these will remain on til the player leaves the club
  • players will wear a mask as pictured below ($13 incl tax each) they are lightweight and comfortable and developed by squash players for squash players, please pay on this link here
  • all participants are to ‘sign in and out’ with name, time stamp, and contact details in case of contact tracing
  • coach will be on court with 1 child / 2 children/ adult from the same family
  • participants will as much as possible socially distance (coach and player will be side/ side, front/ back of  courts)
  • 15 mins will be allowed at the end of the lesson for the player to leave and the next to arrive, no lingering or chatting after the lesson
  • Handles and surfaces will be sanitized between lessons.
  • Player will bring own water bottle, towel and ball
  • No spectators – pick up/drop off can be in the car park or up to the club entrance but spectators are not allowed in the club
  • if anyone feels sick or has anyone in their family that is sick, they must not attend and notify us of any possible risk of spread of illness
